The Friendship

 <img src="http://sugarfused.shutterchance.com/photos/1556/182621_23.jpg" border="0" alt="photo - The Friendship "><br />

"Gentlemen, the British are below, we must fight them tonight." ~ General Andrew Jackson, December 1814 This is a closeup of the hull and rigging of The Friendship in Salem, Mass. This ship is a replica built by the Maritime National Park Service. The original Friendship was built in the late 1700's and sailed around the world 15 times trading for pepper, exotic spices, sugar, coffee to such places as Indonesia, India, Venezuela, England, Germany, Russia, Spain and Italy before she was captured by the British during the war of 1812 and sold at public auction in London in 1813. It seems the captain of The Friendship wasn't aware at the time he made all of those worldly excursions that there was a war going on much less that they had any intentions of capturing his vessel. The replica has taken years to built and it is quite an awesome site to behold. A lot of hard work has been put into it and I took several pictures from various distances - this one is one of my favorites.

I could never stay long enough on the shore, the tang of the untainted, fresh and free sea air was like a cool, quieting thought. ~ Helen Keller My husband and I just returned from a trip to Salem, Massachusetts, where we visited his father and other family members. It was my first time to see this part of New England (I've only visited New Hampshire a few times, and never for more than a quick weekend trip when Scott and I were long-distance dating). Needless to say, I was mesmerized by the beauty of Salem and all it offered. This photo was taken at The Willows - a pretty little park where we enjoyed a delicious lunch from Cappy's Seafood (the fried scallops and clams were to die for!) at a picnic table overlooking this fantastic seaside view :=)
